Introduction
Willem van Dongen is Dutch and lives in the town of Breda, in the south of the Netherlands.
He was attached to several institutes of Visual Arts. During more than a decade he was associated with the Tilburg Academy of Arts, a department of the Fontys Hogeschool. From 1986 to 2000 he was a senior lecturer at the Hogeschool Maastricht,-Faculty of Arts.
He published in various areas, for instance his book ‘DOORZIEN’ which offers a variety of ways of looking at and approaching art in iconographical, morphological, psychological and philosophical ways.
Since 2000 he has worked as an artist full time. He is occupied with painting, sculpting, drawing and etching.

As is often said, art is about creating imagenary gardens. And these imagenary gardens have real paths in them. Finding these new paths and tracks has always been and will always be the purpose of art.
